Charlie Overton York and Carolyn Overton Morton, sisters from Smithfield, NC, decided that it was high time that the physical experience of reading books be as pleasurable as the places reading can take you in your mind. And so, The Original Peeramid Bookrest, a decorative pyramid-shaped reading aid pillow, has become a reality in the marketplace. This uniquely shaped pillow has been awarded a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. While reading a book, Charlie had a vision of a pyramid-shaped object that would make reading more comfortable for her. She called her best friend and sister, Carolyn, with the challenge of bringing it to life using her new sewing machine. Inspired by the Great Pyramids of Egypt, the sisters began experimenting with fabrics, sewing and design. What developed was a beautiful pillow that props a book while you read - freeing a hand for sipping on a coffee, scratching an itch, or truly relaxing. "We designed The Peeramid for readers of all ages, from kids on the floor, to students who read anywhere but their desks, to adults in bed or favorite chair," said York." It is especially helpful to those readers with certain health problems, like arthritis, which can make holding and reading books difficult." Encouraged by family and friends, a long time desire to work together, and the insistence on the importance of reading, Charlie and Carolyn officially named their design The Original Peeramid Bookrest and became Peeramid, Inc. They feel proud to spend their time working to sell a product that encourages reading and the love of books. "We are excited about our Peeramid because it really works. The Peeramid makes reading so comfortable, that you can read for longer periods of time - thus, more books!" says Morton; "And even if you never use it when reading - it makes a unique addition to your throw pillow collection." The sisters describe The Peeramid in four words: Luxury, Necessity, Tool, Accessory. It is Peeramid Inc's mission to "change the landscape of the literary world" with The Original Peeramid Bookrest. The National Literacy Hotline number is printed on each tag in an effort to support the Literacy Coalition and its need for volunteers. Peeramid, Inc. is headquartered in Jacksonville, FL. with manufacturing in Wilson, NC and Bloomfield, CT. E-mail Us: contactus@peeramid.com
